Community car working group

A community car working group is being established to meet at the WCRC. The working group will get the ball rolling with the Community Car Project, oversee the project in this initial set up phase, and establish a timeline to implement the project including setting a start date. Wyche On Track in review

Wycheproof VISION is seeking comments to improve the newsletter or to suggest alternatives to the newsletter. It is currently available as both hard copy or online blog. To have your say about the newsletter; if is of value to you or not; and if it should continue email info@wycheproof.vic.au, write a note and drop it in to the WCRC, or  attend Wyche VISION meetings.

Learn how to help your child manage feelings and emotions, manage worry, frustration, and anger.

3 Sessions Mondays 6 March, 20 March and 27 March at WCRC 10.15 to 2.30pm. Lunch and morning tea provided. Enrolment in this course is offered for free

Volunteers needed

There are several community groups in Wycheproof in need of volunteer support.  Some groups meet once a month and others once in a while. Volunteer time may be one or two hours a month or may be more, depending on your interests. · To support our local hospital the Friends of East Wimmera Health Service-Wycheproof  fundraising activities including catering on sheep sale days, an annual quiz night and Mother’s Day flower fundraiser. Wycheproof Art and Craft Shop. Located on  Broadway, the Art and Craft Shop. The group is looking for volunteers to supervise at the shop which is open 10am to 4pm. Shifts can be in two-hour blocks or more.

· Wycheproof Op Shop. The op shop is a busy place and one of the key spots for tourists to browse when visiting Wycheproof. The shop is open each Tuesday and Friday 10am to 4pm and rosters are flexible.

· Wycheproof Community Museum, in the historic primary school on Mount St. Volunteers meet each Wednesday afternoon at the museum.

Shops are taking on sartorial splendour with the addition of some crafty bunting. Jill at Revival  has led the trend and Chris at Chalmers Butchers has followed suit with bunting for outside the shop and has hers up already and looking fabulous.

Market days will have a new look with tables on the footpath displaying stock to show that it is a special day in the town.

Volunteers from  Wycheproof and District  are needed to mentor young drivers. Training and ongoing support is provided plus the use of a late model vehicle for driving sessions. This program provides a great opportunity to share your experience as a good driver with young people. Please contact Matt Bennett on 0467 787 328 for further information.

L2P is a state-wide initiative funded by TAC,  managed by VicRoads and jointly coordinated by Buloke and Loddon Shire Councils.

Coming in September … Chamber Bingo week!. This is ‘shop local’ initiative by the Chamber of Commerce.

 To enter, make a cash or card purchase at a participating local business (minimum spend $5) during the week starting Monday 5 September; get your Bingo Card  stamped and dated. Complete a single line in any direction to enter the $10 draw, or complete the whole card and enter the $50  draw. Cards to be left in the entry box at WCRC before the 5pm draw on Friday 9 September.

Ask for your Bingo Card at participating shops.  

 

 

 

Kids & Worry: a workshop for parents, grandparents & carers

Monday 5 September 2016 at 10.15am at the Wycheproof Community Resource Centre, 280 Broadway Wycheproof . During this workshop we will explore the reasons why children worry and ways parents and carers can support them. It will include ideas, as well as practical tools, to assist children to manage their worries. To book  phone WCRC on 5493 7455.

 Term 3 at Wycheproof Community Resource Centre continues with great classes and activities for September .

¨ To keep fit there is a choice between Body Bar, Yoga, Step Box and Boxercise.

¨ To keep up with the latest see the beginner courses on how to use Facebook and Instagram. 

¨ To enhance your work skills learn the art of coffee Thursday 8 September 5-10pm and safe food handling Friday 9 September.

¨ Looking for a career change a Cert 3 in Individual Support (Ageing) 12-month course will be offered through Murray ACE at WCRC in October.

Chamber Chatter with Tracy

Well, now that the election is behind us, and the rain is still with us, it is hoped that the foot traffic and travellers’ dollars will be back with us.  There have been good reports on successful market days and I congratulate the business houses giving the shoppers these great specials.  If anyone is interested in having a meeting about how to generate more cash into the town feel free to call in, or phone me at the café or call in and talk to Bernie at the WCRC.  

Remember: ‘ YOU CANT BUY HAPPINESS BUT YOU CAN BUY LOCAL’.  And that's kind of the same thing.

Portsea  camp opportunity

Buloke Shire Council is offering limited paid places for young residents aged 13 to 16 years to attend the Portsea Camp in September. The five-day camp is from 19 to 23 September. Portsea Camp is a not for profit organisation and provides teenagers with a great camping experience full of challenging and exciting activities, in a safe, stimulating, educational and recreational environment. Bras and bloomers for a good cause

During August Wycheproof  Post Office is a collection point for good second-hand and new bras, including maternity, mastectomy, crop top bras. Or new knickers and new or good second-hand swim wear to be donated to women in the Solomon Islands by the Uplift project. Uplift  works with Rotary Australia World Community Service. Landcare grants

The North Central CMA has announce the 2016-17 Community Grants program is open for applications.  Under the community grants program there are three grant types available: Maintenance (up to $500/group or network) and Start-up Grants (up to $500/group or $1000/network) for groups and networks. Project Grants (up to $10,000) for individuals and groups. Landcare Network Grants (up to $15,000) for Landcare Network.  A copy of the guidelines is available at www.nccma.vic.gov.au/Land/Landcare/Grants/index.aspx

I'm sure all will agree the rain has been good for business. Hopefully we get plenty more of it.

Great to see the market flyer growing, the more businesses we have advertising the bigger the market day for all. I will be contacting a few more to come on board for next month.

Pleasing to see continuing progress with shop front improvements. 

Finally, as businesses, we must support the other businesses as much as possible.
